History of SIA
- Founding & Early Years:
SIA, or Students in Action, was established as a platform to unite students from various countries with the aim of creating tangible solutions to global issues. Recognizing that youth are the key drivers of change, the program was designed to provide students with the tools and opportunities to collaborate on projects that directly impact their communities and the world. From its inception, SIA has focused on cross-cultural understanding and active engagement in sustainable development.
- Launch of the First Event:
The inaugural SIA event began as a regional initiative, bringing together students from several countries to participate in workshops, project planning, and presentations related to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The overwhelming success of the first event demonstrated the potential of youth collaboration in addressing complex global problems, spurring the event’s growth.
- Growing International Participation:
Over the years, SIA has evolved from a regional gathering into an international program, attracting students from countries such as Korea, Mongolia, Nepal, and more. With an emphasis on SDG #17, "Partnerships for the Goals," SIA fosters international cooperation among youth, encouraging innovative solutions to pressing environmental, social, and economic challenges.
- Annual Expansion:
SIA has expanded into an annual event, with each year focusing on a different theme tied to the SDGs. As the event grows in scope, more schools, countries, and students join, sharing knowledge and working on projects with significant real-world impacts. Themes have addressed issues like climate change, inequality, and fostering peace, each year building on the previous success.
- 2024 and Beyond:
In its fourth year, Students in Action 2024 will center on the theme "Project World Impact: Partnership of the People." This event highlights the power of collaboration and the role of youth in advancing sustainable development. Participants from Korea, Mongolia, and Nepal will work together on projects aligned with the SDGs, furthering SIA's mission to cultivate global partnerships and leadership among youth.
Mission and Vision

MISSION
At Students in Action (SIA), we are dedicated to empowering young people to address global challenges by actively engaging with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We believe that youth are key to shaping the future, and it is our shared responsibility to equip them with the education, tools, and platforms needed to advocate for a more sustainable and equitable world. Through cross-cultural collaboration and innovative problem-solving, SIA provides students with opportunities to take concrete actions that will help shape the future they will lead.
VISION
Our vision is to nurture a generation of global change-makers who are passionate, informed, and equipped to drive sustainable development. By connecting students from diverse backgrounds, SIA seeks to build a network of youth leaders united in their commitment to creating a better future for all. We envision a world where young people take the lead in finding innovative solutions to critical challenges like climate change, inequality, and conflict. In partnership with global allies, these young leaders will create meaningful and lasting change for generations to come.
